What an SCA sanctioned cookoff means
The Steak Cookoff Association runs hundreds of sanctioned steak cookoffs around the world, and this one brings that circuit to downtown Wake Forest, North Carolina. The SCA supplies every competition steak so no team gets an edge, turn-ins are judged double-blind by certified judges, and points earned here count toward SCA World Championship qualification. Because it is a double cookoff, one day of grilling offers two separate $1,000 first prizes.
Not ready for the main event? The ribs, chicken wings, and dessert ancillaries are $30 per entry and a favorite of first-time competitors. Spectators eat well too: the food trucks and vendor booths run all day next to the Wake Forest car show, and every entry fee funds the club's medical debt relief work for local families.
