Wake Forest Rotary holds successful Oyster Roast

Posted By Brad Walker

On Saturday, October 24, 2020, the Wake Forest Rotary Club held it’s 4th Annual Oyster Roast in a Drive-Thru format. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the regular all you can eat oyster event was not possible. The Wake Forest Rotary Club was determined to continue the tradition and provide a modified event to sell seafood dinners and include oysters on the menu. While the oysters were not all you can eat, the steamed oysters and fried oysters were a big hit with patrons.

Fundraising Chairman Brad Walker was excited about the turnout and the number of orders the event received. “We didn’t know what to expect this year with the change, but it went very well.” The event welcomed over 100 orders and filled over 250 take out dinners. Proceeds for this event will help support the Wake Forest Rotary Clubs Local community projects like LaunchWakeForest, High School Scholarships, and Medical Debt Relief program.

The Wake Forest Rotary club would like to thank David Greenwell for letting us use the Forks Cafeteria for our operations base.

The event could also not have happened without the fantastic Rotarians & Wake Forest High School Interact volunteers. While cars were picking up dinners outside, the members were inside preparing and boxing up the seafood dinners.

Chairman, Brad Walker sent the following message to the supporters after the event:

Thank you for supporting us with your purchase of a Seafood Dinner or a Donation at the Wake Forest Rotary Annual Oyster Roast Drive-Thru. While COVID 19 has altered this year’s event causing us to do a Drive-Thru event, we are hopeful that we can go back to the traditional All You Can Eat Dine-In format in 2021. We hope all of you stay safe and healthy!
